Un equipo de investigaci\u00f3n de la Universidad de Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda de Pohang, dirigido por el profesor Byoungwoo Kang y el doctor Heetaek Park, ha desarrollado una bater\u00eda de sodio-aire de estado s\u00f3lido de alta energ\u00eda y eficiencia. Esta innovadora bater\u00eda utiliza Nasicon, un conductor superi\u00f3nico de Na y electrolito s\u00f3lido, para resolver los problemas de eficiencia que suelen darse en las bater\u00edas de metal-aire, como la formaci\u00f3n de subproductos carbonatados. La composici\u00f3n del Nasicon, que incluye sodio, silicio y circonio, le permite conducir iones en estado s\u00f3lido manteniendo una gran estabilidad electroqu\u00edmica y qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n

El principal avance de esta investigaci\u00f3n es la capacidad de la bater\u00eda para utilizar reversiblemente aire y sodio sin necesidad de equipos adicionales, lo que aumenta la densidad energ\u00e9tica y la eficiencia. Esto se consigue protegiendo los electrodos met\u00e1licos de sodio de la exposici\u00f3n al aire y permitiendo la descomposici\u00f3n de los carbonatos durante las reacciones electroqu\u00edmicas, aumentando as\u00ed la tensi\u00f3n de trabajo y reduciendo la brecha de tensi\u00f3n durante los ciclos de carga y descarga. La c\u00e9lula de sodio-aire de estado s\u00f3lido tambi\u00e9n presenta una alta capacidad cin\u00e9tica debido a un catolito formado in situ que facilita la r\u00e1pida conducci\u00f3n de iones de sodio dentro del electrodo.<\/p>\n

Este avance supone un gran paso adelante para la pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n de bater\u00edas de metal-aire, ya que ofrece una plataforma estable basada en electrolitos s\u00f3lidos que funciona eficazmente en condiciones ambientales. El proyecto recibi\u00f3 apoyo de la Fundaci\u00f3n Nacional de Investigaci\u00f3n de Corea y de BK21(+), y los resultados se publicaron en la revista Nature Communications.<\/p>\n
